Engineering researcher receives CIHR Project Grant

Engineering science professor Mirza Faisal Beg and his research team have received $956,250 from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research's Project Grant program. The funding will be used to support the research project titled, "Staging the host in Cancer: AI-based automated comprehensive body composition assessment for Precision Medicine."

The project aims to develop an AI automated software that can extract body composition measurements from CT images. The tool will help accelerate health research across many diseases and application areas ranging from oncology, surgery, radiation therapy planning, nutrition, metabolism, insurance, clinical trials and research.

The CIHR Project Grant program is designed support research projects that have the greatest potential to advance health-related fundamental or applied knowledge, health research, health care, health systems, and/or health outcomes.
