ELECTRIC CIRCUITS I

September 4, 2017:

  • Rules and regulations, bill of rights (Canadian way), whom to contact in case there is a misconduct (upward chain of command: instructor, undergraduate curriculum chair, director, student union ombudsperson)
  • Introduction: pre-requisites and co-requisites, topics to be covered in this course, assignments and labs, on plagiarism.
  • Textbooks and why are they only recommended for this course. Library reserves. Remarks regarding the old ENSC 220 notes.
  • ENSC 220 web site, email correspondence, caucus conference, office hours, audio-recordings of lectures.

  • Motivation: why should we study electric circuits and learn circuit theory?
  • Models vs. physical components: how good is a model?
  • International System (SI) of units
  • Circuit variables: charge, current, voltage, energy, and power.

    Lab:
  • Forming lab teams (teams of 3)
  • Lab: Orientation Part 1 - PS and DMM. Lab report due on September 17, 2017 (midnight)
