Instructions for completing the M. A. Sc. and Ph. D.
degrees for the defence and the delivery to the Library
Read the Calendar Part: 1.9. "Preparation for Examination":
Download from our website www.ensc.sfu.ca/grad/downloads and complete:
- Approval of Examining Committee for a M. A. Sc. student
(6 weeks prior to defence)
- Approval of Examining Committee for a Ph. D. student (8 weeks
prior to defence)
- Submit a hard copy of your abstract and the signature of
your Senior Supervisor confirming the DAY and TIME with all the
Examining Committee members to the Graduate Program Chair.
(Anne Cooper will arrange the room and
process the paperwork)
- Send by e-mail your abstract to Anne Cooper
acooper@sfu.ca for posting on
our website.
Two weeks before the M. A. Sc. examination distribute your complete thesis
to the members of your Examining Committee or give them to the Graduate Program
for distribution.
Four weeks before the Ph. D. examination distribute your complete
thesis to the members of your Examining Committee or give them to the Graduate
Program for distribution.
You are able to get the Library approval prior to the Examination by
sending your complete thesis to the "Special Collection"

Two Original "Partial Copyright License"
One Non-Exclusive License to Reproduce Theses
Memo from the Senior Supervisor confirming that all corrections
have been completed to the satisfaction of the Supervisory Committee.
Before your examination download from the website
www.ensc.sfu.ca/grad/downloads :
Recommendation of Award for the Degree (signature from your
Supervisory Committee needed)
(You can get all the signatures at the time of your defence and give the
original documents to your Senior Supervisor for safe keeping or give them to
the Graduate Program Chair)
Memo to the Graduate Chair (confirming completion of all degree
requirements)
Unofficial transcript (Maggie Benson Building)
Complete thesis given to the Library:
1 Original complete thesis (original approval page)
1 copy of complete thesis
1 copy for the Senior Supervisor
1 copy for the student (+ departmental journal voucher for binding)
