ENSC 405W and 440 OVERVIEW

ENSC 405W (Project Documentation, User Interface Design, and Group Dynamics) and ENSC 440 (Engineering Science Project) provide you with an opportunity to integrate the technical, project management, communication, and people skills that you have learned over the past 4-6 years. Working in groups of 3-6 people, you will be responsible for proposing, conceptualizing, designing, building, and demonstrating an engineering project of some significance. Topics covered include the following: creative thinking, group dynamics, dispute resolution, collaborative writing, group oral presentations, project documentation, engineering design processes, user interface design, engineering standards, and entrepreneurship. By the end of the courses, you will have mastered the design process as well as the documentation and group work which enables that process.

This website provides contact information for the various instructors, copies of the lecture materials for ENSC 405W and ENSC 440, reference materials for the course, and the documentation generated by groups from previous years.

As well as meeting the Capstone Project Course requirements of the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB), these courses also fulfill the SFU requirement for an upper division Writing Intensive Course.

We would like to thank Mr. Ken Rutledge of CSA International for providing many of the useful links to websites detailing standards, safety, and other regulatory issues (see Useful Links).

Finally, please note that this website is a work in progress as it continues to transition from ENSC 305W to ENSC 405W.
